Phyllis Mae Novotny
1920-2020
Phyllis Mae Novotny, 100, of Nesquehoning entered into eternal rest Thursday, December 17, 2020 in St. Luke’s Hospital Geriatric Center, Coaldale. She was the wife of the late Frank J. Novotny who passed away August 30, 1993. Born in Hopewell, PA she was a daughter of the late Emory and Flora (Moore) Weight. She was a graduate of Robert Smith High School, Class of 1938 in Bedford County. She was employed by the former Quartite Lamp Factory and was also a nursing assistant for the former Coaldale Hospital. She was a member of Meed’s United Methodist Church, Nesquehoning. She was also a member of the Nesquehoning Woman’s Club, the New Columbus Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, the Panther Valley Golden Agers, the Nesquehoning Senior Citizens, and the Nesquehoning Quilting Club. She was member of the VFW Chorus and the Nesquehoning Community Chorus. She also volunteered her time as a Girl Scout leader and a Red Cross volunteer. She was an avid pinochle player.
Surviving are daughters Bonnie Donahue and her husband Edward of Hamilton, PA, Betty Ann Reed and her husband Michael of East Stroudsburg, PA, and Nancy Carr of Mechanicsburg, PA; beloved companion Paul Staruch; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son David F. Novotny and sisters Thelma Carbaugh and Freda Mattison
A Funeral Service will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Meeds United Methodist Church, Nesquehoning with Pastor John Mylecraine officiating. Interment will be held in Sky View Memorial Park, Hometown. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted in her name to the Meed’s Food Pantry, 126 W. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning PA 18240.
